He served on the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco based at the San Francisco VA Medical Center from 2001 until August, 2024, when he transferred to the UCLA Gastroenterology faculty, based at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center Center. Dr. Monto is an experienced researcher who has co-authored many original articles related to hepatitis C and liver disease and its complications. He has also taught university medical students, residents, and gastroenterology fellows for more than two decades, with his teaching recognized by UCSF teaching awards, and remains an active clinical gastroenterologist and hepatologist.
