Summary
- Emergency physician with a career spanning both the bedside and the boardroom. Most recently, I led anesthesia, radiology, surgery, and emergency services across 100+ acute care hospitals in multiple states, giving me a rare view into how staffing and contract decisions actually get made on the health system side.
That perspective led me to a simple observation: physician burnout doesn't start after years on the job, it starts at job entry, when critical information about a site's volume, coverage, stability, and culture is withheld until after the contract is signed. I call this "burning in," and it's the problem I'm currently working to solve.
I'll be speaking on this topic at the EMBC National Meeting in Austin this September and I'm always glad to connect with physicians thinking about career transparency, job fit, or the realities of EM staffing models.
