Dr. Andrew Klafter is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst primarily located in Cincinnati, OH; he also sees patients in the greater NYC area, where he serves as a consultant for a private practice in Spring Valley NY, and for a FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) serving the population of the Village of Kiryas Joel in Monroe, NY. Dr. Klafter received his medical degree from University at Buffalo School of Medicine, and underwent his speciality training as a psychiatrist at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia PA. He has lead trainings and provided supervision for psychothreapists the U.S., Europe, and Israel. Dr. Klafter's areas of expertise are psychodynamic and psychoanalytic technique, personality disorders, mood disorders (including complex pharmacotherapy for Bipolar Disorder and refractory depression), trauma and post-traumatic disorders, and the interface between religion and psychotherapy. He has also served as an expert witness in malpractice and personal injury cases. Dr. Klafter provides consultation for therapists and psychiatrists with patients requiring diagnostic clarification, MAO-I drugs or other innovative pharmacotherapy, and changes in psychotherapy formulation or technique due to resistance or therapeutic impasses.
