- Assaad Merchak, MD, is a neonatologist/perinatologist based in Ladson, SC. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Ascension St John Hospital and pursued a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the Washington University/B-JH/SLCH Consortium. Dr. Merchak graduated from Damascus University Faculty of Medicine in 1992. He currently serves as the Pediatric Department Chairman at Trident Health System and the Neonatal ICU Medical Director at HCA South Atlantic - Summerville Medical Center. His research, often focusing on pulmonary surfactant metabolism in newborns, has been published in several journals and cited numerous times.
