Overview of Dr. Thomaides
Dr. Athanasios Thomaides is a cardiologist specializing in cardiac electrophysiology, based in Washington, DC metropolitan area. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine and a cardiovascular disease fellowship at Temple University Hospital, followed by a clinical cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at MedStar Health Georgetown University. He currently serves as an attending cardiac electrophysiologist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital, and was recently appointed as an associate professor of medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine, after serving as an assistant professor. His research and expertise focus on cardiac electrophysiology, including atrial fibrillation, cardiac implantable electronic devices (i.e. pacemakers and defibrillators), ventricular tachyarrhythmias, and lead extractions. Dr. Thomaides has published several studies in reputable journals, addressing topics such as catheter ablation utilization disparities, racial differences in hospital stay post-ablation, and experiences with dual-chamber leadless pacemakers, among others.
