Summary
- Basant Pradhan, M.D. is a child and adult psychiatrist, educator, researcher and writer. Currently he is a faculty in Psychiatry and Pediatrics and serves as the founding director of the Yoga and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (Y-MBCT), and trans-cranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment programs at Cooper University Health System, Camden, NJ, USA. Pradhan had a few years of monastic training before he entered a career in neuropsychology and neuropsychiatry. As described in one of his books, Yoga and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy: A Clinical Guide (Springer, 2014), Pradhan has developed seven translational and evidence based Y-MBCT models which try to bridge the gaps that exist between neurobiology and psychology of psychiatric disorders and the various treatment modalities. TIMBER© (Trauma Interventions using Mindfulness Based Extinction and Re-consolidation of trauma memories) is a prototype of the Y-MBCT models and has been successfully used for treatment of chronic and refractory PTSD. For exploring this further and to examine bio-markers of response to ketamine and TIMBER©, Pradhan has been awarded with grant support from the National Institute on Aging (NIA/NIH) and the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, USA. As of 2016, Pradhan has authored or co-authored over 30 peer reviewed articles, editorials, books and book chapters and has presented his research over 70 conferences at regional, national and international levels.
