- Dr. Benjamin Phillips is the Chief of the Division of Colorectal Surgery, Enterprise Lead in Colorectal Surgery and the Gerald J. Marks Endowed Professor in Colorectal Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital-Jefferson Health (TJUH).
Dr. Phillips received his Medical Degree from UMDNJ-Newark (Currently Rutgers Medical School) in 1999 and completed his residency in General Surgery from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) in 2005. He then worked as a general surgeon for three years in rural Western North Carolina before completing his fellowship in Colorectal surgery from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 2009.
His clinical interests are minimally-invasive (Robotic and Laparoscopic) surgery for Colorectal Cancer, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's) as well as Diverticular disease. Hi research focuses on optimizing surgical outcomes and enhancing recovery, including the use of novel technologies such as point-of-care gastric ultrasound to improve postoperative care. He is also actively involved in the training of medical students, surgical residents and colorectal fellows.
Dr. Phillips believes in patient-forward/patient-first individualized care for all comers.
