Mr. Carmichael is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, a Fellow of the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants, and a Fellow and Co-Founder of the Bexar County Physician Assistant Society. Additionally, he is a Co-Founder and past President of the Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants, and is on the Board of Advisors and a Charter Member of the American College of Clinicians.
Among his honors and awards, Mr. Carmichael was selected by the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants at PA of the Year in 1990, and by the University of Texas Health Science Center Physician Assistant Program as the Clinical Preceptor of the Year in 2007 and 2009. His research has involved metabolic, respiratory and gastroenterology studies, with his work being published in the American Journal of Managed Care, the Journal of Family Practice, and Arthritis Practitioner, among others.
