He completed his medical education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 1985, had two years of General Surgical residency at Rutgers University and completed his residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, followed by a UT fellowship in Critical Care Medicine and a Cardiovascular Anesthesiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Voss has additional training in hyperbaric medicine from the US Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center and is certified as a Flight Surgeon and Dive Medical Officer. In 2003 he was activated to Afghanistan as the task force surgeon for TF 121, a joint Special Operations TF of US Special Forces, USN SEALs and five coalition countries' Special Operations Forces along with other govt agencies. In 2005 he was a dive medical officer (DMO) at the Special Forces Combat Dive Qualification Course at Key West, Fl as well as the investigating medical officer for diving fatalities at the Key West dive school and a free-fall fatality at Ft. Bragg, NC. He has contributed to academic literature, with one of his publications, "Cimetidine Reduction of Tumour Formation in Mice," achieving significant citations. Also was invited to compose critical care medicine board questions by the ABA for critical care medicine fellows.
