- Dr. Carin A. A renowned expert in Neuroanesthesia and difficult airway management, Dr. Hagberg has significantly contributed to clinical practice and education in these fields. Internationally acknowledged as a leader in airway management, she has served as the Past President and Immediate Past Executive Director of the Society for Airway Management. Her outstanding service to SAM was honored with the Distinguished Service Award in 2012. She received the equivalent award from the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists in 2023. She played a key role in shaping the American Society of Anesthesiology's Difficult Airway Guidelines, most recently co-chairing the 2022 update. She also chairs the Project for Universal Management of Airways, an international initiative to improve airway management practices.
Dr. Hagberg's achievements have earned her numerous awards, such as the 2019 Top 25 Women Leaders in Healthcare, the Sir William Macewan Medal from the Difficult Airway Society and most recently the UT System Regent’s Outstanding Teaching Award recognizing her passion for teaching and mentoring. She has contributed to over 125 peer-reviewed articles, 51 book chapters, and multiple textbooks, including the 5th edition of Hagberg and Benumof's Airway Management.
Dr. Hagberg remains actively involved in clinical work and research, continuing to shape the future of airway management and medical education.
