Summary

  • A Texas native, I completed my MD degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) School of Medicine at Galveston, then continued my training at UTMB Hospitals for my Psychiatry residency. Subsequently, I moved to Portland, Maine to complete my Child Psychiatry fellowship at Maine Medical Center.

After residency and fellowship training, my first position was a Staff Psychiatrist at Counseling Services Inc., a community mental health provider with multiple offices in rural Maine, and also consulted to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Maine. After one year in community mental health, I joined Maine Medical Center as an Attending Psychiatrist in Portland, and concurrently was appointed as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington.

After three years at Maine Medical Center, I was subsequently recruited as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University Department of Psychiatry, and concurrently as an Attending Psychiatrist at IWK Health Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I also maintained a private practice in Halifax, in addition to the research and clinical positions.

Throughout my fifteen-year psychiatry career, I have focused on anxiety disorders, depression, and ADHD, as well as future trends in psychiatry. However, I have extensive experience and expertise in treating severe mental illness such as psychosis, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. I have written and presented extensively on the topics of anxiety, depression, ADHD, psychosis, and psychopharmacology. To date, I have thirty-four publications and have been awarded six research grants.

I am the founder of AnxietyBoss.com, a popular anxiety website which has reached over four million viewers, and author of Anxiety Protocol, an anxiety self-help book. I am currently upskilling as a Data Scientist as a graduate student in the MSc in Computing and Data Analytics Program at Saint Mary's University.
