Summary

  • I am board certified in Urgent Care Medicine and BE in Family Practice.
While in private practice, I was involved in taking care of Diabetics and their co- morbidities.
Perhaps because my husband is one, even now in retirement, my interest has not waned.
I read up on all the newest and latest as where I volunteer, I still see a great number of diabetics.
I kept my license active so that having the luxury of time, I can still keep doing what I love the most- keeping people well enough to keep them from hospital admissions.
It has always been my motivation even when I was in active practice.
Perhaps a lofty goal but even as my practice ballooned out to a panel of 2500 ,I had very few admissions.
I always wanted them to take ownership of their disease process and carefully explained to them our mutual goals and to my surprise, they were very receptive to the idea and acted on it.
I always let them know - " I had their back" and that they could always count on me.
It was a rewarding experience but towards the end- due to the numerous constraints on the practice and the effect it had on my BP- I finally retired .
I still get to see my patients everywhere and feel very blessed when they still remember me and tell me that they missed me.
And hugs are such a pleasure !!
I am blessed to be able to share my expertise to those who have the most need and no capacity to pay . My Dad, an MD himself, now gone, used to say"Medicine is a calling!"It is not a profession. It is unique in the sense that you not only have the capacity to touch and heal their sick bodies, but their minds and souls as well !
    It is a worthwhile experience.
While many go into it for promise of a luxurious life, I went into it to do the former and make a difference in their lives.
I worried and prayed with them, rejoiced with them when they recovered, gave them direction as to where they needed the expertise and mourned with them when they lost a loved one.
They were my family as well !
