Summary

  • Dr. Chad Ruffin is an otologist (ear surgeon) specializing in the treatment of disorders of the ear. His unique combination as a person with cochlear implants, an ear surgeon, and a scientist trained in both auditory cognition and the encoding of sound with cochlear implants drives his innovation and advocacy for the d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing.

In addition to his endeavors as a surgeon-scientist, Dr. Ruffin leads an early stage tech startup to create technology to improve communication for the d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing. He has received research grants from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Indiana University, and the National Institutes of Health.
