Summary

• I am a Board Certified Emergency Physician until the end of 2017. I have suspended my practice of medicine and would most appropriately be defined as retired although I do not believe one ever truly retires from this incredible profession. We think and see the world in a way that defines us in every conceivable way. It is not something that changes when we cease to be healthcare providers.
  Two and one half years ago, I made a challenging social, cultural and geographical transformation when I moved to Tokyo, Japan. This required significant downsizing that was in many ways unimaginable. One quickly realizes the accuracy of the phrase "necessity is the mother of invention".
  Recently, a former colleague reached out to me on Doximity that I had not seen since 1985 and somehow this social media website was able to display classmates and colleagues throughout the entirety of my medical education, internship, residency and medical career - a veritable tidal wave of indescribable memories.
  One can only hope that this journey has been and will continue to be as enjoyable to those I have had the privilege to know as it has been for me.
