Summary

  • I am a board certified adult infectious disease physician at the University of Virginia, where I serve as (a) the Hospital Epidemiologist and Director of the Office of Hospital Epidemiology/Infection Prevention & Control and (b) the Medical Director of the Transplant & Compromised Host Infectious Disease Program. I graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine, was an intern and resident in medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and completed clinical and research fellowship training in infectious diseases and microbiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. My clinical interests include general infectious diseases and infectious diseases in immunocompromised hosts following solid organ or stem cell transplantation or receipt of cytotoxic chemotherapy. My research interests include drug resistant bacterial infections, infection prevention in compromised hosts, and host-pathogen interactions. I am the recipient of a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Physician-Scientist Early Career Award and have authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and abstracts. I have specific clinical and research interests in infections due to staphylococci, enterococci, multi drug resistant enteric Gram negative bacteria, Legionella, and Cryptococcus.
