Summary
- After 30 years as a fellowship trained urologic cancer surgeon in academic and community practice associated with Maine Health hospitals, I have “retired”. However, I have not really retired. I created a limited liability corporation, Equinox Consultants, LLC, and have been giving back 3/4 of my time to underserved areas in Montana and Texas.
This has been very rewarding, despite the travel hassles, as I have been exposed to very thankful patients, responsive and courteous staff, without the administrative challenges of being Chief of Surgery, department Chair, and Medical Director of 5 ambulatory surgical practices. Moreover, as this is organized around MY schedule, I have had more time to exercise and participate in important life experiences with my family. This is my transition to real retirement in the future. At some point, I may make myself available to more fully utilize the Master of Health Care Delivery Science from Dartmouth (MBA in healthcare) in a consultative capacity.
