- I am a fellowship trained social medicine specialist. I am board certified in family medicine, CAQ geriatrics, and school of hard knocks emergency medicine. My specialty has a long history and is alive and well in the UK, Commonwealth Nations-Canada, Australia, NZ, and others, and Continental Europe-most EU nations. During the first Reagan administration, the social medicine departments in a dozen American medical schools experienced major decreases in their funding. The AAMC and the ACGME have failed to recognize the specialty.
