Summary

  • I am an experienced surgeon with 30 years in private practice doing general surgery. Once again I have relocated my practice and office. As a solo general surgeon the only way to stay in practice is to trim overhead expenses without compromising the way you want to practice surgery. I have seen many of my colleagues struggle with this issue and having been in groups, faculty, coverage groups, and partnerships, one might think I should have stayed where I was all along. Maybe... but I want to stay sharp and uncompromising to my patients and the other doctors who entrust me with the surgical care of their patients. So when it is time to move on and make changes I have to say that when the move is right you know and when it's not you should go. So that aside I am happy to say that I am alive and WELL in Freehold NJ. I go to three hospitals CentraState Medical Center, Community Medical Center, and Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus. As a surgeon the field of general surgery has really evolved over the 36 years I have been in it. I understand the need for specialization and learning new techniques but I think that knowing where those new skills benefit the surgeon and the patient are the real answer. A large part of my practice has been breast surgery as it is fulfilling to help women through a very difficult time. I continue to do so but find that I will always love abdominal surgery because of the challenging finds whether looking at a screen or putting my hand inside to fix or correct a problem, stop bleeding , or reconstruct. Truly oversimplified I have enjoyed that area of surgery the most. Longevity in this job is more about loving what you do. I continue to feel that loving what you do and doing a good job are the same thing in surgery. So no "time out"
