Summary
- I completed Internal Medicine training at Baylor College of Medicine and Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) in 1980. I spent the next 3 years at the W.W. Hastings Indian Hospital, Tahlequah, OK in the Indian Health Service. I completed my training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the in Portland Oregon in 1985. I subsequently spent the next 34 years at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Tyler, TX where I worked with my friend and mentor Dr. Richard J. Wallace III. I have recently relocated to Denver, CO and National Jewish Health.
My career has focused on mycobacterial diseases, including both nontuberculous mycobacterial disease and tuberculosis, and bronchiectasis years. I was a member of the writing committee for the American Thoracic Society (ATS) 1997 Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM) and the chair of the writing committee for the ATS and Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) 2007 Guidelines for Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention of NTM) Diseases. I am currently a member of the international multi-society committee that has just published revised and updated NTM guidelines.
