Summary

• Dr. Maron is the C.F. Rehnborg Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Stanford Prevention Research Center at Stanford University. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford and his medical degree from the University of Southern California. He trained in internal medicine at UCLA, then returned to Stanford where he was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. He remained at Stanford to complete cardiology fellowship training. After a brief stint in private practice in Santa Monica, he joined the faculty at Vanderbilt in 1993 as Director of Preventive Cardiology and rose through the ranks to Professor. He returned to Stanford in 2014.
  
  Dr. Maron’s research is focused on the primary and secondary prevention of coronary artery disease. He was a member of the team that designed the VA-funded COURAGE trial that tested the benefit of PCI added to guideline-directed medical therapy in patients with stable coronary artery disease. He was co-chair and principal investigator of the ISCHEMIA trial, an NIH-funded study that tested the benefits of an initial invasive approach compared with a conservative approach in patients with stable coronary artery disease. He is co-chair of the TRANSFORM trial comparing conventional risk factor-based care with atherosclerosis stage-based care in a high-risk asymptomatic population.
  
  He helped develop an AI algorithm to measure coronary artery calcium in nongated chest CT scans. This algorithm is used in over 100 hospitals for opportunistic screening for incidental coronary artery calcium. He sees patients in the Stanford Preventive Cardiology clinic and is president-elect of the American Society for Preventive Cardiology.
