  • Dr. Dean Ouano is an ophthalmologist, clinician, and clinical researcher specializing in cataract and glaucoma surgery, cornea and external diseases, and complex anterior segment reconstruction.
    After completing his undergraduate education at Georgetown University, he graduated from medical school at Brown University and completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Pennsylvania’s Scheie Eye Institute. He subsequently pursued fellowship training in cornea and external disease at Duke University.
    He has been in private practice at the Coastal Eye Clinic in New Bern, North Carolina, since 1996. His clinical and research work has led to peer-reviewed publications, invited lectures, and teaching engagements worldwide, including Canada, Brazil, India, and England.
    He pioneered novel approaches to corneal disease management, including techniques to treat corneal neovascularization (the “MICE” procedure), as well as advances in corneal transplantation and the treatment of infectious eye disease.
    He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
