  • Dimitri Papanagnou is Assistant Dean and Assistant Provost for Faculty Development at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. He is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine.

    Dr. Papanagnou graduated from the New York University (NYU) School of Medicine. As a Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation Scholar, he received a Masters of Public Health at Columbia University's Mailman School. He went on to complete his residency in Emergency Medicine at the NYU / Bellevue Hospital Center.

    After residency, Dr. Papanagnou completed a fellowship in Emergency Ultrasonography at SUNY Downstate / Kings County Hospital; he holds both RDMS and RDCS certifications. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Medical Simulation at IMSAL, and holds the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credential.

    In 2013, he was selected as a fellow for the Clinical Quality Fellowship Program, a patient-safety initiative sponsored by the United Hospital Fund (UHF) and the Greater New York Hospital Association; his capstone quality initiative examines the utility of just-in-time training in the emergency department.

    Previously, Dr. Papanagnou was the Director of Medical Simulation at SUNY Downstate, where he supported and developed educational simulation programs for the medical center. His simulation interests include multidisciplinary team-based learning, simulation-integrated curriculum development, simulation-assisted ultrasound education, and patient safety.

    To build on his skills in medical education, healthcare simulation, and faculty development, Dr. Papanagnou is completing a doctorate in adult education (EdD) at Teachers College, Columbia University’s Graduate School of Education.
