Summary

  • I am a board certified hematopathologist that specializes in diagnosing leukemias and lymphomas by flow cytometry. I have over 16 years of experience working at the University of California San Francisco, a high-volume, tertiary/quaternary care institution. During this time I have also served as the CLIA director for multiple hospitals, as well as the Medical Director for Clinical Laboratory Informatics and the Senior Medical Director for the UCSF Clinical Laboratories. In these roles, I have been responsible for the overall quality management of our pre-analytical, analytic, and post-analytical processes. This included oversight of all testing sections, as well as inpatient and outpatient point of care testing, phlebotomy services and laboratory informatics. As the Senior Medical Director, I lead a team of CLIA Directors at our Parnassus, Mission Bay, Mt. Zion and China Basin laboratories to ensure quality and consistency across the UCSF health system. I was also responsible for the Clinical Lab's operational and strategic planning within the Department of Laboratory Medicine and the broader medical center and served as the overall Compliance and Quality Champion. I have overseen the construction of several laboratories from the ground up, including a high-volume, high-complexity laboratory at our Mission Bay Hospital, a bio-isolation laboratory as part of our highly infectious containment unit and, in collaboration with the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, California's largest non-commercial COVID-19 testing facility focussing on underrepresented and marginalized populations and providing free testing to all California Departments of Public Health. I am also actively involved in teaching our medical students, residents, fellows, and laboratory technologists.
