Summary

• Betsy has been an Orthopedic PA - C since 2004 and she has been Chief Ortho PA - C at IFMC since, 2015. She became a PA-C in 1999. She primarily works with the 5 full time Orthopedic Trauma Surgeons. Along with regular PA duties, she acts as the Orthopedic Trauma Care Coordinator, and precepts both PA and NP students. She not only covers the medical needs of patients on their service, she acts as the liason with the teams for Trauma Acute Care Surgery, Hospitalists, Cardiology, Pulmonology , Infectious Disease, etc. Betsy triages the patients' injuries and their medical optimization in order to determine the case load for the day in the Ortho Trauma OR and posts the cases. She assists with scheduling future surgeries that the patients may need, and is available to speak with patients, families and other hospital team members while surgeons are in the OR. Betsy, the chief resident, and the residency director collaborate daily for PA and resident utilization.
  
  Recently, she decided to return to school for a post graduate certificate and she is currently in the inaugural class of the CHLM/Northeastern University PA Leadership and Management Program. She encourages her team to continually learn and enhance their knowledge base, whether it be in Orthopedics or any other interest they may have. She is hoping to help in expanding the roles of PAs/NPs in the Inova Hospital System in the near future!
