  • Dr. Eric Kraus is a Board Certified Otolaryngologist who is a member of the faculty at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Division of Otology/Neurotology. His primary focus is teaching otolaryngology residents the art of otologic surgery. He received his medical degree from University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, completed two yrs of General Surgery at The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and received his Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery training at The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. He specializes in otology/neurotology and with expertise in hearing loss, adult & pediatric otology, chronic ear surgery, stapedectomy, tympanomastoidectomy, ossicular chain recontruction, hearing implants, and cochlear implants. Dr. Kraus invented endoskeletal ossicular chain reconstruction (eOCR) and the titanium Kraus K-Helix Crown & Piston prostheses that are used around the world to help improve patient's hearing and lives. He recently lauched Wake Forest's robotic-assisted cochlear implant program, the first program of its kind in the Southeastern USA, to: (1) help preserve residual hearing in cochlear implant patients and improve long-term hearing outcomes, (2) research the benefits of robotic-assisted electrode insertions, and (3) train residents in the use of the robot.
