Overview of Dr. Dela Cruz
Dr. Filemon Dela Cruz is a pediatric oncologist and translational investigator at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he serves as Associate Attending in the Department of Pediatrics. He completed his medical education at the University of California, Davis, his pediatrics residency at the University of California, San Francisco, and his fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at Columbia University Medical Center. His research focuses on developing and applying patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models integrated with genomic characterization, systems biology, and single-cell transcriptomics to identify and validate therapeutic strategies for high-risk pediatric solid tumors, particularly sarcomas. His preclinical work has directly informed the clinical development of several investigator-initiated trials, including agents targeting desmoplastic small round cell tumor, neuroblastoma, Wilms tumor, and HER2-expressing pediatric solid tumors. He serves as MPI of the NCI Pediatric Preclinical In Vivo Testing Program (PIVOT), Lead Investigator of the Pediatric Research in Oncology Xenografting Consortium (PROXC), Scientific Co-Chair of the Break Through Cancer Osteosarcoma Initiative, and Co-Chair of the Target Prioritization Committee of the Ewing Sarcoma Institute, and holds advisory roles with the CCDI Molecular Targets Platform, FNIH/COACH, and the Children's Oncology Group Bone Tumor and Sarcoma Biology Committees.
