  • Dr. Francisco Soto is an Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville, TN. He is a respected clinician and researcher with 20 years of experience in the management of pulmonary hypertension (PH) and the evaluation of pulmonary manifestations of left heart disease.

    He is a past chair of the pulmonary vascular disease (PVD) network of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and he is a current steering committee member of the PVD network. He has also served on the editorial board of the journal Advances in Pulmonary Hypertension, the official journal of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA).

    Areas of pulmonary hypertension-related expertise include the use of prostacyclin infusions (subcutaneous and intravenous), the assessment of connective tissue disease-associated pulmonary hypertension (such as scleroderma) and the evaluation of pulmonary hypertension due to left heart disease and structural heart disease.
    Related areas of excellence include the use and interpretation of cardiothoracic ultrasonography and the evaluation of cardiopulmonary hemodynamics. He personally performs the right heart catheterizations in the cardiac cath lab as part of the comprehensive assessment of patients with known or suspected pulmonary hypertension.

    He has an additional interest and expertise in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, including evaluation of lung nodules and lung cancer using endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), radial EBUS and electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy (ENB); and management of severe emphysema/COPD symptoms through bronchoscopic placement of endobronchial valves (Zephyr® and Spiration®) for endoscopic lung volume reduction therapy.

    He has been selected by his peers to the Best Doctors in America® list from 2007-2020.
