Summary

  • Dr. Frank Mihlon is a board certified, CAQ subspecialty neuroradiologist in Virginia Beach and partner at Hampton Roads Radiology Associates, which is a highly-specialized radiology group that serves multiple hospitals in the region. He is a senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology and publishes scientific articles regularly with the radiology residents he mentors at the East Virginia Medical School radiology residency program. Dr. Mihlon delivers the neuroradiology part of the radiology ACR Virginia Chapter CORE board review in Richmond every year, and that course is attended by radiology residents based in Virginia and the surrounding states. In 2018, he was awarded EVMS radiology department teacher of the year. He has served as the medical writer for Northender Magazine for several years, and there you can find his monthly medical column where he covers a range of topics of general interest. Although his training and clinical work include interventional radiology and general diagnostic radiology, as a neuroradiologist, Dr. Mihlon spends the bulk of his time diagnosing diseases of the head, neck, brain, and spine. A special interest of his is disorders of CSF flow and pressure, particularly Chiari malformations and spinal CSF leaks, and as such, he is an active member of the International Hydrocephalus Imaging Work Group (IHIWG). This interest began in residency at the University of Colorado where he and his mentor Dr. Robert Bert did a series of experiments involving quantitative arterial and CSF flow studies on MRI, and was further developed as a fellow at Duke under Dr. Linda Grey, who a pioneer and a leading spinal CSF leak specialist in the field. Thanks to the careful mentorship and training these neuroradiologists provided, Dr. Mihlon now has the pleasure of helping patients with these disorders in the Hampton Roads region.
