He specializes in minimally invasive treatments for common hand problems, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, Dupuytren Contracture and wrist tenosynovitis. He is a world-renowned expert and pioneer in the minimally invasive treatment of Dupuytren Contracture, specializing in Needle Aponeurotomy / Percutaneous Needle Fasciotomy and Xiaflex / Collagenase injections. He has authored numerous peer reviewed papers, 5 textbook chapters and is a frequent presenter at grand rounds, scientific meetings, and professional forums worldwide. He is on the board of trustees of the Dupuytren Research Group, a world leader in Dupuytren information and research.
Dr. Pess has been recognized as a Top Doctor in NJ by New Jersey Monthly Magazine and in the NYC regional area by Castle Connolly.
He co-invented a knife which allows trigger finger release surgery to be performed percutaneously.
He is the Medical Director of Central Jersey Hand Surgery, where he has been in practice for over 37 years. He is also Medical Director of the Center for Ambulatory and Minimally Invasive Surgery and on the board of Physicians' Surgery Center.
He is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including RWJ Monmouth Medical Center, Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Community Medical Center, CentraState Healthcare System, and Hackensack Meridian Health Bayshore Community Hospital.
He received his Medical Degree from State University of New York Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine. Orthopedic residency was performed at New York University Medical Center / Bellevue Hospital in New York City and com,pleted a Fellowship in Hand, Upper Extremity Surgery and Microsurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.
