Prior to this he was the Chief of Neonatology at Texas Children's Hospital and a tenured professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. In addition to extensive clinical training in pediatrics and neonatology he has a Master of Science degree in clinical evaluative sciences from Dartmouth College. His expertise lies in neonatology, evidence-based medicine, patient safety, quality improvement, and leadership. He is a popular teacher and invited speaker on these topics, and has taught numerous workshops at national and international conferences. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals, multiple book chapters, and is the editor of two well-known neonatology textbooks.
