Summary

• Dr. Gene Liu spent his academic career at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he served as Director of Academic Otolaryngology. During that time, he was deeply embedded in the institution's clinical mission as a member of the Cleft and Craniofacial Clinic, Skeletal Dysplasia Team, Thyroid Cancer Center, and Sinus Center — before transitioning to private practice in 2026.
  
  Dr. Liu’s clinical and research interests include the feasibility and safety of performing selected pediatric procedures, such as ear tubes in the office, potentially avoiding the need for anesthesia and the operating room. He has been invited to speak internationally on this topic and strongly supports shared decision-making with parents when choosing the best option for their children.
  
  Dr. Liu is nationally recognized as a leader in the specialty, currently serving as Chair of the Pediatric Otolaryngology Committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He has been elected by his peers to serve on the Board of the Society for Ear, Nose, and Throat Advances in Children and the Los Angeles Pediatric Society. He is also a member of multiple committees in the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He serves as an Editor for the International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology.
  
  As an educator, Dr. Liu led the Cedars-Sinai residency training program from its inception and remains actively involved as a member of the teaching faculty. In addition to the residents, Dr. Liu has taught countless UCLA medical students, USC and Touro University Physician Assistant students, and other healthcare students from across the country. He also started one of the most popular ENT YouTube channels, providing educational content for patients and parents.
