  • Dr Burns, MD, FACEP, FACMT retired as a full colonel from the US Air Force. He is board certified in emergency medicine and medical toxicology and holds the academic rank of full professor with academic appointments as a professor in Emergency Medicine, Military Medicine and in Pediatrics.
    In his career, he has served as a military commander, a hospital Chief Medical Officer and as core academic faculty in three residencies.
    Furthermore, Dr. Burns is heavily involved in international medicine and is engaged with key international partners and is a recognized expert by the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, several US embassy security cooperation offices and several foreign Ministers of Health. Prior to retiring from the US Air Force he would spend 4-6 months a year on various continents and has currently worked in 89 nations. He is considered certified to develop new programs and create de novo new instructors in his areas of expertise; this has been awarded by various organizational bodies such as UN, EU, the African Union, NATO the Pacific Alliance, etc. These areas of expertise are in conducting military medical education and in the development of training programs in the following topics; point-of-injury care, medical disaster leadership, Refugee relocation and base camp establishment, Mass Casualty, post-disaster planning, casualty evacuation from austere environments, tactical combat casualty care, medical response to weapons of mass destruction and city/national disaster planning. He remains involved in numerous humanitarian assistance/disaster response operations as well as medical readiness exercises and diplomatic medical assignments throughout the world; he is also partnered with several US and international universities in the development of medical education programs for new physicians. He is married to a pediatric neurologist and has three awesome kids
