  • Dr. Greg Takenishi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine. Dr. Takenishi specializes in complex problems of the shoulder, knee and elbow. During his 12 years at Kaiser Permanente, he distinguished himself as a regional specialist in Northern California for complex knee ligament reconstructions, open and arthroscopic shoulder problems, cartilage restoration of the knee, patellofemoral instability, corrective osteotomies around the knee, meniscal transplants, Tommy John surgery in throwing athletes, acute traumatic tendon injuries of the elbow, primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty (anatomic and reverse). Dr. Takenishi has provided care for a diverse population in the Central Valley, ranging from professional athletes to the weekend warrior.

    Dr. Takenishi graduated cum laude from the University of California, San Diego. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Takenishi completed one-year internships at the University of Florida and at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan, New York. He then completed a four-year orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Arizona. After returning to California, he completed a fellowship in orthopedic surgery Sports Medicine at S.O.A.R. in Redwood City, California. During his fellowship, Dr. Takenishi received world class training from the team physicians for the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco Forty-Niners. With this foundation for orthopedic sports medicine, he segued into a career in arthroscopy and shoulder replacements in 2011, at Kaiser.

    Dr. Takenishi has served as a team physician for the Sacramento Kings G league affiliate, the University of Pacific, University of Santa Clara, USF, Delta College, Skyline College, DeAnza college and many other. Also during his sports medicine fellowship, he cared for athletes for the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco Forty-Niners.
