Summary

  • I am a board-certified general surgeon who grew up in the South Bay area of Los Angeles and who now practices in the same area. My degree in medicine is from UCLA and I did a research fellowship at USC. I completed my general surgery internship and residency in Torrance, CA at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. At first I partnered with a prominent surgical oncologist in Century City, Hollywood, and Glendale. Later I entered solo practice back in the South Bay. While my focus had been primarily on surgical oncology before, in my new location I have been doing a more typical case mix for a general surgeon. I still relish the challenging cancer cases, but I do enjoy doing hernias and gallbladders too. It was inevitable, I suppose, that I would find my clinical practice taking advantage of my prior research focus. I had done much research in wound healing and had even written an NIH RO1 grant. There was clearly a need for expertise in this area, so I now devoted a significant portion of my time to it. I have pursued further training in hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and I joined the staff at a comprehensive wound clinic to focus on wound healing and reconstruction. I would say my practice has become well-rounded. While I have never been interested in academia, I have enjoyed the challenges and interactions that come with various administrative and committee roles at the local hospitals. In my roles as Chief of Surgery, Chair of Bioethics, and others, I am and have been pleased to work with my peers to improve patient care.
