He completed his psychiatric training at Wayne State University and further specialized in child and adolescent psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), where he continues to serve as faculty.
He has received additional training in psychotherapy at the Michigan and Oregon Psychoanalytic Institutes, at The Bowen Center for the Study of the Family in Washington, DC, and with the Parent Hope Project in Sydney, Australia.
