Summary

• Dr. Melhorn is an experienced, Palliative Medicine nurse practitioner. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA. She spent seven years working as an intensive care nurse at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) at both UPMC Presbyterian SICU and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital Adult ICU.
  
  In 2012, she started at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Nursing to obtain her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) for nurse practitioners. Her DNP Capstone was “Reasons, Care Trajectory and Outcomes of Women with Breast Cancer Admitted to the Intensive Care Unit’. In 2016, she graduated and obtained a national board certified by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP).
  
  Dr. Melhorn spent the first two years of her nurse practitioner career at Allegheny Health Network (AHN) on the inpatient palliative medicine consult service at Forbes Hospital and West Penn Hospital. In September 2019, she relocated to Baltimore to join the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) inpatient palliative medicine consult service. In December 2019, Dr. Melhorn obtained her Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (ACHPN) certification form the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center (HPCC).
