Summary

  • I am a leader in academic and community medicine. For more than 16 years I served as Chief of Emergency Medicine, gaining extensive experience including the merger of two of New York’s premier hospitals and providing leadership in patient safety, service, and quality. I helped build strong teams aligned with common values of respect and compassion for patients and colleagues along with dedication to evidence based practice and data-driven performance improvement. My administrative role included numerous quality, strategy, and planning committees and I served as co-Chair of the Credentials Committee.

I am an Associate Professor of Medicine at CUMC, and co-founded the first Emergency Medicine Residency Program at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and the Fellowship in International Emergency Medicine at the Mailman School of Public Health. My University role has included participation in strategic planning (including curriculum reform, clinical services and finances); classroom and bedside teaching; course supervision/directorship; and mentoring for medical students through the process of career selection and residency application.

I am a skilled Emergency Physician, residency-trained and board-certified (ABEM). I have maintained an active practice in adult and pediatric emergency medicine at academic and community hospital sites, and was honored by my Nursing colleagues as a Physician of the Year.

My career interests have focused on clinical operations management; building systems to improve the consistency and reliability of care; quality; and safety.

My goal is to improve health by applying my skills in medicine, education and operations management. My passion is to improve health care institutions by modeling behaviors of respect and compassion for others, by innovating to constantly improve systems of care, and by sharing my skills and experience while continuing on my own journey of discovery and learning from inspirational colleagues.
