Summary
- As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. James B. Hughes oversees the effective, high-quality medical and psychiatric care delivered by our inpatient services, outpatient services, crisis teams, and child and family professionals. His team is responsible for implementing strategies, programs, policies and procedures for all 24/7 clinical services.
He reports to Chief Executive Officer Monica Bernhard.
With more than 20 years experience as a psychiatrist in inpatient, outpatient and community mental health settings, he is most proud of his long history of early adoption of cutting-edge therapeutic practices in the treatment of mental health conditions. Dr. Hughes was instrumental in opening the Neil S. Hirsch TMS Clinic at our Almira Campus in May 2024. The clinic provides a simple, effective treatment that can be life changing for people with treatment-resistant depression.
Dr. Hughes earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and completed psychiatric residency at West Virginia University. He chooses to work at KMHS because of its devotion to the mission of service and excellence in care for the vulnerable and disenfranchised of our community.
