Summary

  • Dr. James A. Knight II received his undergraduate degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from Yale University in 2015. After completing a year-long Fulbright U.S. Student Fellowship at the Cajal Institute in Madrid, Spain, Dr. Knight attended the Indiana University School of Medicine and graduated in 2020. He completed his internship in General Surgery at the University of Kentucky (UK) and is currently a resident in the UK Department of Radiation Oncology.

    In February 2023, Dr. Knight was recognized in an annual “Thank a Resident Day” profile published by University of Kentucky, acknowledging his humanistic impact and contributions to patient care. He currently serves as a member of the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) National Resident Committee, a member of the Kentucky Medical Society/Lexington Medical Association (KMS/LMA) Writing and Publishing Committee, and as a chief resident in the UK Department of Radiation Oncology. He has been extensively involved in radiation oncology research, presenting his work at multiple national conferences. His research interests include novel applications of spatially fractionated radiotherapy (SFRT), utilization of stereotactic radiosurgery in thoracic tumors and recurrent head-and-neck malignancies, and feasibility and clinical implementation of novel radiation therapy techniques in developing nations.

    Through the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) Global Radiation Oncology Workforce (GROW) Travel Grant, Dr. Knight most recently participated in a month-long elective at the Cameroon Oncology Center, in Douala, Cameroon in February 2024, to develop understanding of the healthcare system, patient population, and treatment modalities that undergird cancer care in Cameroon. Dr. Knight intends to pursue a career in academic medicine, both to further contribute towards cancer research efforts, and to equip future residents to become skilled, effectual leaders in radiation oncology.
