Summary
- As the Director of the Center for Clinical Trials and Translational Investigation at Baystate Medical Center and the Director of Critical Care Research in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine I have been involved in establishing infrastructure, oversight and management of clinical research policies and procedures at Baystate Medical Center and provide support for faculty investigators in all phases of clinical research, including proposal development, protocol implementation and destination of deliverables. My research highlights include my participation as a clinical center PI for the NHLBI sponsored ARDS Network (2000-2014) (HHSN268200536165C). Currently I am a clinical center PI for the NHLBI Prevention and Early Treatment of Acute Lung Injury Network (PETAL Network) (UO1 HL 122989)).and have established a multidisciplinary clinical research consortium referred to as the Acute Lung Injury Group of New England (ALIGNE). I am also a site principal investigator for CDC sponsored Influenza Vaccine Effectiveness in the Critically Ill (IVY) trials, a multicenter network that conducts prospective observation studies designed to evaluate the effectiveness of influenza vaccination for preventing severe clinical manifestations in the hospital setting and also study the epidemiologic impact of COVID-19 on health care workers and hospitalized patients.
As a clinical investigator I have extensive experience in conducting clinical investigations, having participated in a large number of NHLBI and industry sponsored clinical trials ( 85 trials). I have also been the Chair of the Institutional Review Committee for the NHLBI ARDS Network and a member of the Network’s Pathogenesis Committee, Steering Committee.
