Summary
- Jerrold Gorski, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon based in Queens, NY, with extensive experience in hip reconstruction. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland and further specialized as the pioneering first fellow at the Anderson Engh Clinic in Cementless Arthroplasty. Dr. Gorski is currently a physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital Queens. As a Clinical Assistant Professor, He is the Medical Director for Orthopedics. He coauthored a seminal article on Biological Fixation with Dr. Engh, and wrote the surgical technique for the AML total hip arthroplasty. He pioneered modular non cemented total hip arthroplasty for congenital dislocation of the hip. His patented Graduated AML was made by DePuy. His scholarly contributions include publications, notably in the Journal of Bone and Joint surgery, Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research and The Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, addressing topics such as preoperative planning for total hip arthroplasty using a magnification measuring device. Over diagnosis and over treatment of tennis elbow, and rotator cuff disease were publications of his expanding interest in “pathological sleep positions”. An important finding is that the root cause of the second most common disability, chronic idiopathic neck pain, found over the supraspinatus muscle is due to sleeping with the arm in the overhead position of impingement. Over a lifetime, nightly impingement causes ischemia and rotator cuff attrition and the release of intracellular contents including cytokines and nociceptive chemicals that diffuse into the adjacent supraspinatus muscle causing spasm and pain, while the shoulder itself may be asymptomatic. Likewise, tennis elbow chronicity is thought to be due to sleeping while applying pressure to a primary lesion of the lateral epicondyle, for which he has been awarded a patent for decompression while asleep, the first new therapeutic device in years.
