Summary
- Hi, I’m Dr. Jerry Gelbart, a psychiatrist in Orinda, California. When most people hear “psychiatrist” they think “medications” or “pill pusher.” I do have 30 years’ experience prescribing and teaching about psychiatric medications, which can be effective in reducing symptoms, however my emphasis is on psychotherapy, meditation, and lifestyle change. That’s where the long-lasting benefits are. That’s what can help to get people off medications.
My orientation is Biopsychosociospiritual, which means attention to physical and medical issues, as well as emotional, relationship, and spiritual or religious areas. I utilize newer psychotherapeutic models including extensive training and teaching in Cognitive-Behavioral and Dialectical-Behavioral Therapies. I don’t just tell patients “go meditate” but actually teach why and how it will help with their specific symptoms, and together make the behavior changes to integrate meditation and other healthy routines.
You’re invited to check out my website and blog at www.ThePotentMind.com for more information about my approach. Thank you.
