- Joanne Lynn, MD, is a geriatrics specialist based in Hanover, MA. She completed her residency in internal medicine at George Washington University from 1974 to 1978 after graduating from Boston University School of Medicine in 1974. Dr. Lynn staffed the President's Commission on Ethics in Medicine and Biomedical Research and was principal author of its report, Deciding to Forego Life-Sustaining Treatment. She served as the Director of the Center for Elder Care and Advanced Illness at the Altarum Institute from 2012 to 2021. Before that, she was full professor at both Dartmouth and George Washington. Her research is extensively published, including studies in notable journals such as the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and JAMA Network Open. Dr. Lynn has been cited numerous times and has engaged in significant research concerning eldercare and public health issues affecting older adults. She was elected as a member of the Institute of Medicine in 1996. She is also a Fellow of the Hastings Center and the American Geriatrics Society and a Master of the American College of Physicians.
