He has authored or coauthored close to 700 papers and chapters, edited many symposia, and is an editor of the first four editions of Nutritional Management of Renal Disease. Dr. Kopple co-founded the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism(ISRNM), International Federation of Kidney Foundations(IFKF), and World Kidney Day, and was president of the National Kidney Foundation(NKF), American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, ISRNM, IFKF, and Council of American Kidney Societies.
