She completed her education at prominent institutions: an ophthalmology residency at Tufts Medical Center, her medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and fellowships at Harvard including Ophthalmic Pathology and Vitreo-Retinal surgery at Mass Eye and Ear. In addition, Dr. Seddon has a graduate degree in Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health. She is currently a tenured Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating retinal vascular diseases, macular degeneration and macular dystrophies. Dr. Seddon is also a published author, with her research focusing largely on nature and nurture contributions to macular degeneration. Her significant contributions to the field including modifiable factors related to macular degeneration: diet, nutrition, green leafy vegetables and fish, lutein and zeaxanthin, Mediterranean type diet, smoking, as well as numerous genetic variants related to AMD have been recognized with numerous awards. She has held several leadership positions including Trustee and VP of ARVO, Gold Fellow of ARVO and ASRS, Interim Chair, Director of the Residency Program, and Principal Investigator of epidemiological and genetic studies of macular degeneration.
