- John Chang, MD, is a gastroenterologist based in La Jolla, CA. Dr. Chang completed fellowship training in gastroenterology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed his internship and residency in internal medicine. He earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Chang is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
As a professor of Medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine, he teaches, trains and mentors graduate students, medical students, residents and fellows. He is a faculty member of the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program and serves as co-leader of the immunology training area. Dr. Chang also serves as co-director of the UC San Diego - La Jolla Institute Program in Immunology. His research is focused on investigating fundamental mechanisms underlying T lymphocyte differentiation and improving the molecular understanding of digestive diseases to identify new diagnostic and therapeutic targets. Dr. Chang's research program has been supported by the National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies. His work has been published in numerous journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Science, and Nature.
Dr. Chang is a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and of the American College of Gastroenterology, a member of the American Association of Immunologists, and an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
