Summary

  • I have been in a small multispecialty group practice in Corsicana since I completed my Pulmonary fellowship at UTMB in 1991. I have been the sole pulmonologist for that entire time and have provided services in both the clinic and hospital settings. The ICU is a relatively small 10 bed unit but if offers the full spectrum of services including medical and surgical cases. While an open unit, I have been consulted and managed the vast majority of the patients and all of those with severe illnesses. I am very skilled in all of the standard ICU/pulmonary procedures and have been the local resource for other procedures including bone marrow biopsies, pacemaker interrogations and PEG tube placements. I have also been engaged in clinical research for 20 years and have done over 100 trails through an independent research company that I have founded.
I attended UTMB for medical school and residency/chief residency. I was trained the classical "old school " approach and never met a patient or situation that I was afraid to engage. I am board certified in Pulmonary Medicine. I did not complete a formal fellowship in Critical Care which was not offered when I did my training at UTMB. I did not attempt to get certified through the grandfather clause because it offered nothing additional to me at the time in my situation. I was extensively trained in Sleep Medicine and have managed thousands of cases over the years but similarly did not take the certifying exam under the grandfather clause. With the rule changes, I have not done formal sleep work in a year but still have a passion for it. In summary, I feel that I am quite capable and familiar with anything that I would encounter in a standard practice setting, either in the ICU or in the office.
I have recently retired from this practice after 27 yrs and have begun doing locum tenens work (mainly hospital and ICU) that I enjoy because of the change of venues and balance of work and life.
