  • Dr Knowles is a fellowship trained specialist colorectal surgeon. His practice includes complex colorectal care using the latest techniques. He has a wide array of skills including minimally invasive (robotic and laparoscopic), open surgery and colonoscopy. He has trained at some of the most famous institutions and hospitals in the world. His medical training was undertaken at Oxford University, following which he trained in surgery on the London surgical training program. He was awarded a Royal College of Surgeons research grant, which he used to study complex cancer cellular interaction. He was consequently awarded a distinction as a Master of Surgical Science from University College London. He completed his training in colorectal surgery which included time at the internationally renowned St Mark’s National Bowel Hospital and The Paris School of Surgery.
    His fellowship was in complex re-operative and minimally invasive surgery at The Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute, Melbourne Australia in 2012 and he was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons the same year. Having completed his training he worked at the Royal Free Hospital, London’s biggest hospital group. There he worked on complex cancer and inflammatory bowel disease and pioneered the minimally invasive surgery program there. In 2017 he was made Division Chief of Colorectal and General Surgery. He moved to New York in 2021 and worked in the Colorectal and Inflammatory Bowel Disease center at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. His research interests include colorectal cancer and healthcare education.
