Summary
- I am a board-certified Internist and Geriatrician and have worked both in the not for profit hospital and SNF setting since 1990 (MA and NJ) and the Optum/UHG setting as Senior Medical Director for the Institutional Special Needs Program (ISNP) since 2006. I have been almost FT at Optum since 2020 but still see short term rehab patients at my local SNF. My work in both spheres has filled me with joy and the ability to gaze thoughtfully into both arenas. I look forward now to being a "Luminary Fellow" at Doximity and sharing my writings and comments with many. I am an amateur birder and I enjoy reading fiction. I volunteer in a food pantry and bringing food and supplies to those affected by homelessness. As husband, father of 3, and now grandparent, i look forward to learning from my peers as those dear to me in my family have taught me to be a better--though not perfect!-- listener. I was awarded Medical Director of the Year by AMDA recently and pride myself in trying to better the lives of those frail adults living the remainder of their lives in the SNF and nursing home settings. The reciprocal nature of this work is not lost on me, and my friendships with both staff and residents of these facilities has been a daily gift thoughout my 30 years in practice.
As William Butler Yeats wrote:
"Think where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory was I had such friends".
