- Karen Sistrunk Cowan, MD, MPE, NIMH Fellow is a psychiatrist based in Saint Louis, MO. Dr. Cowan completed her Residency in Psychiatry from 1988 to 1992 at the Washington University/B-JH/SLCH Consortium where she also completed an NIMH Post Doctoral Fellowship in Psychiatric Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Dr. Cowan is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine, Class of 1988. She has served as ER Medical Director at Metropolitan Psychiatric Center where she later served as Facility Medical Director. Additionally Dr. Cowan also served as Medical Director of Bio-Behavioral Medicine, Hopewell Center and St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. She will retire from US Department of Veterans Affairs, St. Louis, MO in May 2025 and looks forward to additional work with "Reaching Beyond Resilience Charitable Organization and "Felicity Counseling, LLC" which are both utilitarian Mental Health Services owned and operated by Tiffany Walehwa, MA, LPC (daughter).
